Berries

BerryWorld supply the widest range of berries in the UK, including organically grown fruit, our speciality berries and exclusive varieties.

strawberry

Strawberries are available in store all year round. The UK season runs from April to November. At other times we source strawberries from Spain, Morocco, Egypt and Holland to meet demand. We grow the best tasting varieties, including our new Sweet Eve strawberries.

raspberries

The UK raspberry season runs from June to November, with berries available from Spain, Morocco and South Africa at other times. Raspberries are not really true berries, as each drupelet is actually classified as in individual berry, so they are actually a cluster of berries. The same is true of blackberries. Raspberry varieties Tulameen and T Plus offer excellent eating quality.

blueberries

Now being grown in the UK, home grown blueberries are available from June to October. Blueberries from Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, South Africa, Poland, Morocco, Spain, France, and Italy are available at other times, giving consumers a year round supply. Blueberries have become very popular in the UK in recent years, no doubt in part as a result of scientific research which has shown them to be very high in antioxidants. Blueberries are an ideal snack at any time of the day, why not try our ready to eat snack packs.

blackberries

Blackberries are grown in the UK from June to November. Outside of the UK season, blackberries are imported to meet demand from countries such as Mexico, Spain and France.

blackcurrants

Our blackcurrants are grown in the UK and are available from July to August.

redcurrants

Redcurrants are available in stores from June through to November. The UK season runs from July to September, and fruit is available from Holland and France at other times.

gooseberries

Gooseberries can be divided into two types – cooking gooseberries and the sweeter varieties known as 'dessert' gooseberries. Cooking gooseberries are available from in June and dessert gooseberries are available later in the season from around July. Our gooseberries are grown in the UK in Kent and Berkshire. Gooseberries can be red or green in colour depending on the variety.

cranberry

These tart red berries grow in vines along the ground. They are very versatile, and are great in a whole range of both sweet and savoury recipes, as well as the classic cranberry sauce. Our cranberries are grown in the USA where they are dry harvested for the very best quality. Fresh cranberries are available in the UK from October to December. Cranberries have been found to be high in antioxidants.

pineberries

Pineberries are smaller than the strawberries we are used to, but what makes their appearance so distinct is their white flesh which is studded with red seeds. The aroma and flavour of pineberries is quite unique – a flavour more reminiscent of pineapple than strawberries. Pineberries are grown in Holland and available in the UK from April to May.

whiteberry

Strasberries have the genetic make-up of a strawberry, but their small size and deeply positioned seeds give the appearance of a strawberry-raspberry hybrid. Originally a wild strawberry species, the berry was on the verge of extinction before a Dutch grower rediscovered it seven years ago. Strasberries are available in the UK from April to June.

gariguette

Gariguette strawberries are a variety which is characterised by its elongated berry shape, delicate flavour and texture. These speciality strawberries are grown in the UK, and are available from March through to April.

macberry

Mac Black is an unusual looking raspberry, which is black in colour. This new variety was available in summer 2010 for the first time in small commercial volumes. These raspberries are a separate species to the red raspberry, and were originally bred in the USA. Mac Black is now being grown in the UK and is available from mid to late summer. The variety Mac Black is very high in antioxidants.

champagne

Champagne raspberries are a yellow floricane variety which has been bred by the BerryWorld Plus programme. It has been grown on a small commercial basis since 2009 only in the UK. Our Champagne raspberries are available from August to October.
