Our Aims

If you were to walk into a UK retail store not that many years ago you would only find soft fruit on the shelves during the summer months of the year. This is because soft fruit comes from sun-loving plants that cannot produce fruit in cold environments.

In 1994 BerryWorld realised that in order to provide the UK consumer with the much wanted soft fruit during other months of the year, it would have to source fruit from other parts of the world, where more temperate weather would allow for it to be grown. The objective was to provide the UK consumer with fresh and high quality berries all year round.

To meet this objective, BerryWorld now supplies soft fruit from countries in both hemispheres to maximise all year round supply. From October to April BerryWorld sources fruit from the Southern Hemisphere as well as the Middle East, whereas during the summer months most of the fruit is sourced from the Northern Hemisphere.

Ensuring Supply

In addition, BerryWorld has taken soft fruit production one step forward. Not only does it plant in different countries around the world, but also in different locations within each country. Each of these locations can also have different varieties of the same berry. This strategic move is designed to span production more evenly across each crop, providing early, main and late crops within each country. This enables crops of different countries to overlap and avoid gaps in supply.

Lastly, it is important to mention that none of the above would be possible without the strong and long-lasting commercial relationships BerryWorld has with its growers all over the world, as well as first-class supply chain management and commercial and technical know how.

About our berries

British-grown berries account for a large percentage of the total volume of berries bought by consumers each year.

BerryWorld also sources a wide range of soft fruits for the UK market from across the globe.
