The initial aim of the BerryWorld Plus breeding programme was to seek an improved primocane fruiting raspberry specifically looking for early cropping. To this end 7,500 individual seedlings were planted in spring 2003. In each subsequent year approximately 7,500 primocane seedlings have been planted annually with promising selections being placed in advanced trialling plots.
In 2004, interest in the breeding programme was such that BerryWorld Plus introduced a florocane breeding scheme. The aim of this scheme is to produce improved summer fruiting raspberries. Presently 1,500 individual seedlings are planted annually.
2005 saw the launch of the BerryWorld Plus breeding programme in Spain looking for improved raspberry varieties with low chill requirements for the Southern Mediterranean climate and season.
